Canadian troops will improve the lives of Afghans -- except those they kill
Canadian forces will be part of a multinational combat force participating in what one could unceremoniously, but truthfully, refer to as "Taliban killing." No more self-congratulatory claims of "But Canadians are peacekeepers," for us. And we should be proud of that.

We're from Canada
We're here to kill you

On the September 11, 2001, the Twin Towers were destroyed. President Bush immmediately declared Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda responsible. Within 24 hours of the destruction of the Twin Towers, the FBI published a list of the 19 Al Qaeda hijackers responsible and even produced a passport belonging to one of them, a passport that just fluttered from the sky at ground Zero. Bin Laden was based in Afghanistan as the guest of the Taliban Government. So the Taliban had it coming. And as America's ally, Canada has a role in exacting retribution against the Taliban.

Convincing, eh.

Yes, except that in the only interview he has given since 9/11, Bin Laden denied responsibility.

Yes, except that despite Bush's initial "dead or alive" rhetoric, he subsequently expressed complete indifference to Bin Laden's whereabouts: "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

Yes, except that it emerged subsequent to 9/11 that at least seven of the 19 hijackers were either still alive and well or else had died prior to 9/11.

Yes, except that no high rise building before or since has ever collapsed as a result of a fire.

Yes, except that a large body of evidence indicates that the Twin Towers collapsed as the result of a controlled demolition.

Yes, except that the U.S. Government hastily shipped the Twin Towers steel to China, retaining none as forensic evidence that could have disproved, or proved, that the Towers were brought down, not by burning kerosine, but as the result of a controlled demolition dependent on explosives located so as to shear the steel columns supporting the towers.

Yes, except that according to former British Foreign Secretary, Robin Cook, Al Qaeda does not exist, the name meaning "database," which is what Al Qaeda actually was. (Funny thing, Robin Cook dropped dead shortly after mentioning this fact.)

Yes, except that only by a remarkable intervention by the U.S. Government, under the direct supervision of Vice-President Cheney, were the planes that struck the Twin Towers able to penetrate American air defense.

We could go on, but it is very far from clear (1) who brought down the Twin Towers, (2) whether Osama Bin Laden had anything to do with the attack, (3) whether Al Qaeda exists, (4) what caused the towers to fall, (5) why American air defenses were so easily penetrated by a bunch of hijackers supposedly armed only with Exacto knives, (6) how the hijackers managed to perform high speed aerobatics with airliners they hardly knew how to fly.

So the justification for killing Talibanis seems slight. True they harbored Bin Laden, but as there is no clear evidence that Bin Laden was responsible for 9/11 or even if he had an organization capable of carrying out the attack on the Twin Towers. Moreover, there is a total lack of evidence that the Taliban government of Afghanistan was aware of, or complicit in, any action that Bin Laden may have taken to attack the United States on 9/11.

It is far from clear, therefore, what purpose, or with what justice, Canadian forces are in Afghanistan killing Talibanis, who, if they did little else that was good, suppressed the Afghanistan opium trade that has since been restored with a vengeance under the U.S. puppet government in Kabul.
