Obama's Olympic failure will only add to doubts about his presidency

Obama's ill-judged intervention in the selection of the 2016 Olympics venue is the last, and the least important, of a string of bad judgments that will ensure continued and probably irreversible decline in American prestige, security and prosperity.

Obama's first blunder was to renege on his promise to have the troops out of Iraq by the summer of this year, thus establishing himself as the latest in a long line of lying American Presidents whose word the international community would be wise to ignore.

Next Obama bailed out the crooked bankers rather than the victimized home owners. It would have been a simple matter to legislate a mortgage interest holiday until such time as the Case Shiller home-price index stabilized, during which interval home owners would have been free to pay down the capital on their loan. That would have largely terminated the flood of mortgage defaults and stabilized both the housing market and the financial system. Mortgage holders would have lost some income, but they would have been assured of the eventual return of their capital.

Third, Obama instituted a stimulus package which means massive wasteful spending on projects with a negative return on investment. In the case of "cash for clunkers," the return will be, to the nearest approximation, minus 100%, i.e., a dead loss. Such programs do nothing except bring spending forward at the expense of increased debt that has to be paid out of future income. If the investment fails to generate a return it means that future income will be depressed by debt repayment. In other words, stimulus spending just kicks the problem of recession down the road.

Fourth, Obama expanded the Afghan war to Pakistan instead of terminating it. The eventual result will likely be half a million troops tied down in Central Asia for the next decade ending in demoralization and defeat of the U.S. army.

Fifth, Obama has ignored America's deperate need for an industrial policy. Americans, apparently, are to rely on the sweated labor of Chinese and other Asians for ever to produce everything they need from shoes and shirts to car parts and high-tech electronics. Meantime, America's once world-leading engineering skills decay and kids realize that doing math and other hard subjects is a total waste of time.

Sixth, Obama has failed to produce any useful policies on energy or the environment. China is planning massive exploitation of wind power over the next twenty years, Japan is planning a space-based solar power plant. America is planning indefinite wars of aggression to extract oil and gas from remote parts of the world where Americans are hated. This is sheer stupidity. It is technological cretinism. It demonstrates a catastrophic atrophy of the imagination.

America faces destruction by a political establishment owned by financiers who know nothing and care nothing about anything whatsoever other than stuffing their pockets with the wealth Americans have accumulated over the generations. If that means shipping the countries industrial capital to Asia, so be it. If that means transferring all of America's technological know-how to Asia, so be it. If that means more than 50% youth unemployment, so be it.

By now it should be clear for all to see: Obama is nothing but a tool of a corrupt financial estblishment that will suck America dry, then let it dry up and blow away in the wind.

In this case the task is particularly simple as I disposed of his Lordship, Christopher Monckton, on an earlier occasion (and here), when he demonstrated by his complete lack of grasp of the basic units of physical measurement his incompentence to speak on a complex scientific question.

None of this should be taken to imply that we are not skeptical about global warming predictions. It is just that we do not believe that there is yet a science of the future. People like Lord Monckton, who say that we shouldn't worry about a doubling or tripling in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide -- you know, the asphyxiating gas you exhale -- are just as much snake oil salesmen as energy hog Al Gore.

Interesting, but McGovern ignores the important fact that by forcing regime change on Iran the US can gain total effective control of 70% of the World's oil reserves. Thus Israel may be as much or more the tool of the United States as the other way around.

Nevertheless, Israel would gain much from a military defeat of Iran, which would necessitate the defeat of Syria and Lebanon. The consequence would be a great increase in Israel's influence in the region; the creation of an Israeli oil terminal for the export of Iraqi oil via the Mediterranean; and likely also an expansion in Israel's undefined borders.

A war of conquest against Iran may entail great risks but upon the execution of such a mission depends the United States' claim to global hegemony. Don't bet on the US ruling elite folding their tents and sneaking away from the field of battle under the cover of night.

The important question for those who oppose the Project for the New American Century , aka American global empire, is what alternatives are there? Bill Clinton, in a rare moment of candor, raised the question of whether it might be best, rather than seeking to dominate the world, to strive to create a world system in which Americans would be secure and prosperous when America is no longer the sole super power. Few, it seems, was listening.
